Addictions

Addictions can take many forms, most commonly linked to substances like drugs or alcohol, but also behaviors like sex, overeating, and gambling can be said to be addictive as well. While the substance-related addictions have become recognized and more understood by society in general, there still remains stigma and shame attached to these conditions. Behavioral addiction (such as sexual, eating, or gambling) is still very misunderstood by society (and even health professionals without a background in addiction) and can be judged harshly, which leads to guilt and suffering in silence. Anxiety

Feelings of anxiety can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to struggle on your own. Support is offered through various techniques, including Narrative Therapy, which is used to encourage and compassionately challenge people to be mindful of the story they’re telling to better utilize their strengths. The idea is to encourage the use of more positive words as opposed to negative words while telling our life story. This theory has shown to be remarkably effective in helping people confront the challenges of their lives in order to bring about lasting and meaningful change. Other approaches used to address anxiety include Humanistic perspectives, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Enhancement, and Systems Theory.

Supervision
